New Years' Day Dive by Dan Schwartz

I began the day looking to scope out a shore dive. The ocean was pretty rough so I didn't even bother bringing a kayak. First I headed over to Otter Cove, the beach on the other side of Lover's. The stairs are under construction and other entry areas didn't look so good. It was back to the Break. No one else could make it so I was about to go solo when I met Tom - another underwater photographer and alaso a dive instructor.

He said he knew what to line up to be able to drop right on the Metridium Fields. We shore dove and landed almost right on them.So that was our first dive. There was a lot of backscatter in the water and I was trying out my new strobe. My pictures didn't come out so good.

- probably my best photo that day. I was trying different lighting angles. For this one I had the strobe shooting upward..

Next dive we went to the wall. Viz was still the same, about 10 ft. It wasn't surgy or anything. Just pretty stirred up.

Sunflower star

I also shot some macro. Coonstripe shrimp

Even though the pics didn't come out so good it was a sunny day and a great to start out the new year in the water. Tom's website is http://www.scubaforeveryone.com/
