How to Clean a Fish by Dan Schwartz

                                            Ocean Cove, Sonoma.

On our last BCD outing Pete and Nick tanked dived Stillwater Saturday, while the rest of us went in for abalone on Sunday at Ocean Cove, Sonoma. We kayaked out past the point to the north and found a calm spot. What was interesting for me was there were metrudium anemones at 12 ft depth when they usually only grow in dark areas over 60 feet. I didn't have may camera with me.

Some fish were speared and the conversation came up of how to properly fillet them. Here's how:

First,  find a flat surface like the fish cleaning station they had at the top of the hill. Preferably one that has a working hose.

Next, look intently and have someone else do it for you, like Nick is doing here.

Now that Nick has Carol doing all the work, ask her questions while she cuts the skin and bones from the fish. Mix in words like "Oh", "Uh-huh" and  " I see".

Not cutting your fingers is real important as Carol demonstrates here .

Always cut away and never towards yourself.

Your fillet is now ready to be placed in a zip-lock baggy

Any further questions? You can now go to Nick.
