Mendocino Diving by Dan Schwartz
Last dive outing Nick, ( and I forgot his woman friend's name and its
too late to call him) and I headed out for the cove to pick some ab
up on Saturday. Motorcycle cove was pretty rough so we didn't go there.
Then
we decided to hit Van Damme. We were the only ones there, it looked
pretty rough too. We wanted to get dinner, so up north we sent to Casper
cove.
You can't see too well in the pic, but there were about a half dozen
or so surfers riding the waves. That should say enough. Off to Russian
Gulch.
Yup,
surprise surprise it Was pretty messed up too. Nick thought that's
it, we'll wait for low tide but I wanted to check out Van Damme one
more time. We looked, he said, "Nah." But I thought I saw
a spot that looked doable. But no, in about 3 minutes or so the area
I thought was ok turned into 4 foot breakers. Time to watch some foot
ball in the pub until low tide.
Low tide came in the afternoon and things flattened out considerably.
There were others in the water, said they had about 5 feet (I was
expecting it to be in the inches) but it turned out OK and we had
ab at the pot luck.
I guess patience sometimes pays off.
