Mendocino Weekend by Curt "Birthday Boy"
Haney
Carol and I are back from a great weekend diving the
Mendocino Coast. Pete and Naioko Davis and their son Kai joined us at
the little house in Mendocino for Labor Day weekend.

We dove on Sunday at Casper Cove and had about 35 feet
of visibility and Carol got a nice 20 pound Lingcod and I got a 15 pound
Lingcod and two nice big Cabazone fish. Pete also got a Lingcod and
we all had a feast of fish and Abalone for dinner.
On Monday we went freediving at Van Damme beach.
We were able to get around the point to the North since the wind was
coming from the Southwest. We got some nice Abalone in fairly shallow
water and headed back to the house to pack up. The weather was a little
cool both days with fog mixed with sun near the coast, but move just
inland a bit and it was nice. We spent Saturday and Sunday at the
coast and then drove over the hill to Willits to stay Monday night
with our friends Dennis and Nancy Miller. We had another fish and
Abalone feast and got up the next morning to a flat tire on our SUV.
We got it fixed in Willits and then drove to Hopland for a great breakfast
at the Bluebird Cafe. We also stoped at one antique store and made
it back home by 2pm. It was great weekend on the North coast and we
are looking forward to returning soon.
